The 30-year-old amassed a goldmine after starring as the boy wizard in Harry Potter, and ended up being one of the richest kids alongside castmates Emma Watson and Rupert Grint. Now a proper adult with mortgages and what not, Daniel revealed he’s been told by his mates how bad he is at spending his dosh. Friends who, one can only assume, want him to spend it on them. Hint, hint, Dan – your mates want you to make it rain. ‘I don’t do a huge amount with my money,’ he told James O’Brien’s podcast Full Disclosure this week. He continued: ‘I’m not particularly extravagant. There are moments where I think, “Man, I’m really bad at being famous”.’ At the suggestion he’s also bad at being rich, he replied: ‘I’m terrible.’ Daniel previously told the Belfast Telegraph he decided to be a little more frugal so he can have more fun with his career. ‘I’m very grateful for it, because having money means you don’t have to worry about it, which is a very lovely freedom to have,’ he said in 2016. ‘It also gives me immense freedom, career-wise … For all the people who’ve followed my career, I want to give them something to be interested in, rather than them just watch me make loads of money on crap films for the rest of my life.’ Fair play. His co-star Rupert (who played Ron Weasley) had previously said he has an ‘embarrassing’ relationship with money, after buying things like an ice cream truck and a hovercraft. ‘I think it was Dan [Radcliffe] who once said that I’m slowly constructing some sort of Neverland,’ he previously said to the Independent. He added: ‘It took me a while to accept a relationship with money. It’s kinda embarrassing. I do buy weird stuff but I stopped that now. I’ve grown out of that a bit.’ Daniel first landed the role of Harry Potter back in 2001, at the age of 11 and it’s been reported he earned $1m (£767,000) for the life-changing role. Appearing in each film from the Harry Potter franchise, it’s alleged he’s pocketed at least $100m (£76m) for the beloved character and the 2011 final instalment apparently earned him a base pay of $33m (£25m) which, if accurate, is really nothing to sneeze at. He’s still a little short of Harry Potter author, JK Rowling, who has a reported net worth of $1billion (£767bn). Got A Story?
