BREXIT FURY: EU sent UK a bill for an extra 1 billion euro on Brexit Day! 'Coincidence', says EU

The European Union has sent the United Kingdom a bill for an extra 1billion euro (approx 850,000,000 GBP) on Brexit Day.

The story was discovered by a British journalist who asked questions on the topic during today's regular news briefing in Brussels.

The European Union says the additional bill was part of a "routine annual budgetary exercise" and the date is a coincidence.

British media claim the figure will be negotiated down by the United Kingdom but the European Commission says this will not happen and urges Britain to stick to the rules.

"There are rights and obligations of being a member. The European Commission can also take legal action if Britain refuses to pay."
