Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam said the territory was prepared to deal with the outbreak of an unknown virus from China as the first case was confirmed in the city. Lam was speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Wednesday.

"We have a protocol. We have the resources. We have the isolation facilities in our public hospitals as well as in some of the make-shift isolation facilities making use of holiday camps, if quarantine is needed, for some of those in close contact with these particular passengers through our very effective contact tracing," said Lam.

She also commented on the ongoing demonstrations in Hong Kong saying that protesters appear not to understand the "one country, two systems" policy.

"If we have the pan-democratic legislators telling people that a piece of legislation called The National Anthem Act is a piece of evil legislation, that is not understanding of 'One country, two systems'. If we have young girls, 15-aged, defaced the national flag and threw it into the Victoria Harbour, that can not be a true understanding of 'One country, two systems'," said Lam.
