Q&A from Julius West Middle School - The Real Concern

Q&A from Julius West Middle School - The Real Concern Video from the WXY Community Engagement meeting at Julius West Middle School on 12/11/2019. Share, like and subscribe to this channel for more updates from MoCo Neighbors for Local Schools.

An attendee takes the time to suggest the real concern of parents attending WXY's community engagement meeting is that black kids will suddenly be attending Chevy Chase and that parents are afraid of who their children will go to school with. Includes some talk about recommendations from the Maryland Civil Rights Commission.

Well spoken, thoughtfully constructed remarks, delivered by a sympathetic figure. These remarks sounded very professional, even if they stood in contrast to the concerns expressed by the diverse crowd in attendance.

The concerns expressed by the audience were predominantly related to 45 minute bus rides, not the face of the student body. MCPS has demonstrated their willingness to extend travel times to schools by hours weekly even for young children. The impact of commuting does not appear to be represented in WXY's plan, the only response parents have received is that there will be no impact.

Thank you to our community partners for sharing the video.
