Today, we are going to talk about five common mistakes to avoid when playing a blues solo. We will be working over a G Blues backing track.

1. Starting to strong. Go with a middle range for your note attacks so you have room to grow.

2. Not using enough silences. Give the audience time to digest your musical ideas.

3. Your playing may be a little too perfect. Blues is about feeling so a little imperfection here and there gives character to your performance.

4. Not developing your ideas enough. Take a simple idea and play it in different versions.

5. Not targeting chord notes. Go beyond the minor pentatonic and use chord tones for a more focused sound.
