Distinguishing Minor Characters

Distinguishing Minor Characters Thomas Flight on Coen Brothers and Minor Characters:

In this episode of Scriptease we’re looking at how to distinguish minor characters in our scripts by looking at the screenplay for The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. The Coen Brothers are experts at making unique, funny, odd and ultimately memorable minor characters. They may only have a few lines, or possibly none at all, but these people enrich the story’s world. When your main cast is supported by intriguing minor characters, your story becomes elevated: Minor characters can build on theme, break or enhance mood and expose new sides of other characters. By looking at how these characters are created in text, we can gain some insight into how to craft these odd gems ourselves.
