So what’s the deal when a broker rejects a stock order? Here’s the first thing you know: some brokers don’t allow you to trade OTC stocks. These brokers tend to only allow trades on stocks that are listed on the big exchanges like the NYSE and Nasdaq.
Let’s say you’re checking out a five-digit ticker — like some sketchy weed stock — but your broker won't let you buy it. What do you do?
Contact customer service!
Ask if you can trade OTCs. Depending on the broker, you might just be able to fill out some paperwork, and boom, you can trade OTC stocks. But it really depends on the broker...
Some brokers are just too risk-averse. They don't want you to trade these speculative companies. And some of the more established brokerage houses may not let you trade some of these really volatile stocks.
If you're looking to trade low-priced stocks, this can be super frustrating!
You can also focus on price levels, whether it’s an OTC, Nasdaq, or NYSE. Some brokers just won't let you trade stocks under a certain price. Also, remember if you're trying to short these low-priced stocks, most brokers simply won't let you.
Are any of these scenarios tripping you up? You don’t have to suffer through it and skip trades. It just means it’s time to upgrade your broker. Be sure to do your research. Shop around and find a new broker that better suits all your trading needs.
