A mum and daughter travelled halfway around to surprise their extended family after five years of not seeing each other.

Student Alex Tinsley, 19, and her mum Sylvie, 50, travelled from their native Truckee, California, to Arras in France on November 8.

After visiting for the first in five years and had returned for an impromptu appearance, hoping to spring a surprise on her cousins and extended family.

Once the pair arrived in Paris, they were greeted by her younger cousin and other family members who were ecstatic to see her again.
