Jeremy Clarkson: ‘I don’t care’ Host stops show to issue coughing plea after cheat scandal

Jeremy Clarkson: ‘I don’t care’ Host stops show to issue coughing plea after cheat scandal Jeremy Clarkson was gearing up to ask Who Wants To Be a Millionaire contestant Lynne Greenwood her next question in the quest to win one million pounds when he was disrupted by an audience member who seemed to be feeling rather unwell. The audience member hasn’t been identified but the host wasn’t impressed when he heard an echoing cough as he went to ask his next question. Just as Jeremy was about to speak, an audience member began to cough, which seemed to throw the host off. The moment came just as the one million pound quest got a little more serious. Lynne had just announced she was ready to go a little further and play for a staggering £16,000. This was disrupted by a series of spluttering which lead to the host hitting back with a rather prickly response.   READ MORE Who Wants to be a Millionaire guest doesn't know £100 question  Jeremy said: “This is the question now for £16,000… I can hear people coughing.” The audience member responded with a loud splutter. Jeremy continued: “You’re supposed to cough after the question’s been asked. “In such a way that Lynne can use it, not just cough constantly before I’ve asked the question.”  The presenter paused briefly before adding: “You better? Oh, I don’t care.” The audience erupted into fits of laughter at the host’s witty response. Getting back to the show he went on to ask Lynne: “‘Robert Plant found fame as the lead singer of which of these bands?’” The contestant answered correctly with Led Zeppelin.        The gag seemed to be a nod at the 2001 Charles Ingram coughing scandal after he was accused of cheating. A court previously ruled that he had answered his questions correctly thanks to a participant coughing on cue to alert him to right answer. However, the former contestant maintained that luck, military training and strategy had helped him answer the winning question. Meanwhile, another contestant shocked viewers after stumbling very early on in the game.
