Royal Navy to protect British ships from Iran attack Sky News has learned the Royal Navy has been tasked with escorting British-flagged ships through the Strait of Hormuz to protect them from Iranian attack.

The first accompanied mission took place overnight - a move implemented after the crew of an oil tanker was detained by Iran's revolutionary guard.
