India’s efforts to promote Green Fuel

India’s efforts to promote Green Fuel Union Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan highlighted India’s efforts in promoting Green Fuel. The government of India has notified the National Policy on Bio-fuels 2018 that envisions increasing the usage of bio-fuels in the energy and transportation sectors of the country.
The policy also aims to utilize, develop and promote domestic feedstock and its utilization for production of bio-fuels, thus, increasingly substituting fossil fuels. In an effort to promote cleaner fuels in the country, Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have initiated several measures, including, Addition of CNG facilities at retail outlets, Setting up Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) facilities, Dispensing BS VI Grade fuel w.e.f. 1-4-2020 and Setting up of Electric Vehicle Charging Stations.
The policy aims to meet an indicative target of 20% blending of ethanol in petrol and 5% blending of bio-diesel in diesel by 2030.
