That there are body and mind benefits associated with having regular sex will come as no surprise. But did you know there are also consequences – genuine science-backed health consequences – associated with an arid sex life?
It may not be much comfort, but at least we’re all in it together. As a collective, us Brits are having less sex than in recent years, if a national survey from 2019 (which spanned some 34,000 people) is anything to go by.
In the findings, published in the British Medical Journal, almost a third of men and women aged 16 to 44 said they hadn’t had sex in the past month – up from around a quarter in 2001 – and less than half have sex at least once a week. For the most part, experts reckon we’re simply too busy, tired and stressed.
