Complaints of established administrators being forced out
-
Fear and Intimidation techniques (Power and Control issues in the workplace)
- Teachers are feeling insecure and scared for their jobs/worried about being falsely accused
- There is now a culture of disposability and teachers and administrators are all walking on egg shells- wondering will they be next.
Many parents and administrators have stood up here, at this very podium, for the past few months to express, with intensity, their stories -- giving many examples of the negative cultural shift at San Marcos Unified. As we were all here listening – it was clear to everybody the room these parents and administrators had all experienced significant emotional distress. It’s obvious that there have been many “invisible” ethical and emotional violations and that’s what we are asking the board to see.
You as Board members are committed community members, giving your time and expertise. I trust that you care about our schools and the people who are invested in making our schools great. We all have other things we might rather be doing on a typical Tuesday night, but we are all here together again and again because we are ALL committed to our community and want our district and students to thrive.
Although there has been some acknowledgement about some of the concerns – and I thank you for that. I’m concerned that the board isn’t quite capturing the gravity and alarming importance of this situation. It’s appears the board seems to have a mental block or resistance to looking at the recently discovered underbelly of this district. It’s my belief there is a destructive element among us that needs to be confronted and constrained.
We are asking the board at the very least give us some sort of direction as to how you plan to address the serious issues that have been brought to your attention and reassure us that these intimidation and fear tactics will no longer be tolerated at San Marcos Unified. And it’s not just the words we want to hear-
it’s the actions set in motion that district leaders who are exploiting the school system for their own desires are no longer allowed to not act in the best interest of the community.
It’s my opinion that valued relationships, legacy, established connections and longevity, no longer mean anything to our district.
This is a public school system and the public should have the right to have their values respected.
We are baffled, shocked and dismayed by the board’s inactive response. But please, don’t continue your silence in regards to this negative cultural shift of disposability and intimidation. Respond to our concerns.
