OT 101: HOW TO do toilet transfer with quad cane, sliding board transfer, & compression stocking Thank you to my buds for being apart of this! Detailed how to for: toilet transfer with quad cane, sliding board transfer with the therapist moving the client, and compression stocking. There are different ways to do these activities. Here is how we did it ;). We are all still learning so please share in the comments below how YOU do these tasks and any suggestions you may have.

Tips: Use a gait or transfer belt just in case!

Toilet transfer with quad cane:
-feet planted firmly on ground
-slight bend in knees greater than 90 degrees
-head over toes when getting up from wheel chair
-push yourself up to standing using your wheelchair arm rests
-do not hold the cane to get up
-adjust cane height
-keep a good base of support (feet hip-width apart)
-keep cane close to body
-walk with cane then weak side then strong side
-turn in steps. do not twist the body when turning

Sliding board transfer with you scooting the client: *so many different ways to do this, depends on person's level assistance needed. In this case, we are moving the client and you can do the way I did-pick them up and move them or you could slide them.
-weak side of body closest to transfer destination
-to get board underneath the person, elevate the person's weak knee, have them lean onto the strong side, and get the board as far under them as can
-no need to rock, you can just scoot them
-turn their feet
-make sure they are stable on the board
-remind the person to be careful of their fingers! Do not let them get pinched!

Compression stocking:
-find the heel
-scrunch the sock to the heel then roll and scrunch
-get the entire scrunched part over the heel
