Presenting the bright and bold orange and yellow marigold flowers in my garden. I believe they are going to brighten up your day and make you smile 😊 Marigolds belong to the family Calenduleae and Genus called Calendula. Scientific name - Calendula Officinalis. The flowers open up when the sun is out and so they are often called “ herb of the sun “. They represent passion and creativity.
Marigolds bloom from July to September. The upper leaves are broad and spatula-shaped while the lower leaves are oblong and smooth at the edges. The branching stem grows up to a height of 30 to 60 cm. Marigolds are normally propagated by seeds. They require a damp or wet soil and a lot of sunlight for their growth.
Marigolds have many medicinal qualities. They are used for stomach upset, ulcers, eye infections, bladder, and urinary problems. They are also used as an antiseptic and an anti-inflammatory agent. They are also used in the treatment of alopecia.
Marigolds are often used to make garlands and offered to gods.They are used to decorate religious and festive places, especially in India. Pigments in Marigolds are also used in food coloring for humans and livestock.
