Ashes flop Warner 'not the best choice' for Allan Border Medal

Ashes flop Warner 'not the best choice' for Allan Border Medal While David Warner had a successful summer, his "absolute flop" in the recent Ashes series means there were better choices for the Allan Border award, according to The Australian's sport editor, Wally Mason.

Warner secured Australia's highest cricketer honour for the third time, beating out Steve Smith and Pat Cummins.

Warner had a dismal Ashes series, averaging only 9.5 runs with the bat.

Mr Mason told Sky News said while Warner "did deserve the medal" others "deserved it more".

"I think [if] you stopped ten cricket fans in the street [and asked] who they thought had done the most for Australian cricket in the last 12 months, nine would say Steve Smith, one would say Marnus Labuschagne or Pat Cummins."
