Urine infections need to be treated as soon as possible; if left untreated, they could develop into more serious complications. If you have a mild urine infection, you may be able to treat it at home using some simple home remedies. The following are some symptoms to look for that may help you spot a urine infection, and what you can do at home to resolve the problem.
The most common symptoms of a urine infection include:
• A painful or burning sensation during urination
• Bad or strange smelling urine
• More frequent urination than usual
• Feeling like you have to urinate frequently
• Lower back or abdomen cramps
In order to treat these symptoms do these next 5 simple steps -
No 1 Drink more water
Drinking water will result in more frequent urination, which in turn will help flush the bacteria from your system. You should strive to drink at least 8 glasses of water per day. Make sure you keep up a healthy water intake even after your infection has gone away!
No 2 Go to the bathroom right away
If you feel like you have to urinate, make sure you get to a bathroom right away. If you hold it, then you are likely giving the bacteria causing your urine infection a stronger chance to grow which can make your infection worse. Holding your urine can also cause you to develop a urine infection in the first place, so make this an everyday practice even when you don’t have an active infection.
No 3 Drink cranberry juice
Cranberry juice is a classic urine infection home remedy; cranberries have a natural compound which makes it difficult for bacteria to stick to your urinary tract walls, which can help prevent urine infections and make it more likely for an active infection to be flushed out. If you can't find unsweetened cranberry juice, opt for some whole cranberries instead. Avoid anything that is super sweetened, such as dried cranberries or cranberry juice with added sugars or artificial sweeteners.
No 4 Eat more garlic
Garlic isn't just a fragrant way to add flavor to a meal: it can actually reduce the bacteria that causes urine infections in your system! Adding chopped garlic - looking for whole cloves that you can chop yourself, or purchase pre-minced garlic if you don’t have the time or ability to easily peel garlic cloves to meals, can help you if you have an active urine infection.
No 5 Take probiotics
Probiotics encourage the growth of naturally occurring bacteria which can fight off the infection-causing bacteria in your system. Probiotic foods include yogurts, sauerkraut, kimchi, and other fermented vegetables or cheeses. As with cranberries, avoid anything that is overly sweetened.
If you have a mild urine infection, try the above home remedies to remove your infection. Remember, if your symptoms worsen or won’t ago away, contact your doctor.
