2-8-20 – THE CITY OF BROTHERLY LOVE THE CITY OF BROTHERLY LOVE
This morning I am taking my friend to the airport where he will fly to Phily. Founded by William Penn who named the city Philadelphia, which is Greek for brotherly love (from philos, "love" or "friendship", and adelphos, "brother"). As a Quaker, Penn had experienced religious persecution and wanted his colony to be a place where anyone could worship freely. Perhaps Donald Trump is trying to follow in Penn’s footsteps and other American pioneers who wanted freedom and justice for all. Of course at that time, rights meant white men only; women, people of color and natives of the land where considered sub-human and had no rights. There were many injustices. There still are; in fact, it seems to be getting worse in some ways. As for me, I’d like to experience a world where we would actually love one another regardless of superficial differences. Sadly, many who hold positions of so-called authority are far from loving. Just look at the impeachment fiasco that has been taking place in Washington. Where’s the love when the Speaker of the House openly tears up the President’s speech transcript for the entire world to see? Where’s the love when traitors like Judge Napolitano, a man with whom I have often agreed, sides with the Democrat criminals in this debacle of trying to impeach a man duly elected by the electoral college that prevents large states from dominating the smaller ones?
