There were some dark days for UK high streets in 2019 and Thursday came the confirmation that it was indeed the worst year on record. Sales in shops fell for the first time since those records started in 1995.
Quite something when you consider that even during the credit crunch they rose.
The British Retail Consortium said preparing to leave the EU, twice, and a December election hadn't helped.
