Over molding is a manufacturing process where plastic is injected around another component. This component can be another plastic part, an electric cable, a metal part or contact pin or a printed circuit board.

When over molding we have to follow more steps than the common injection molding process. Some parts only have 1 over molding cycle. Other parts need multiple over moldings and require several high precision molds.

The part to be over molded has to be placed precisely in the mold. If the position is not right, it can ruin the part.
