Hi, my name is Lucy, and my dad put a camera in my shower. I know it sounds really messed up, but it didn’t happen the way you might think. Let me tell you about it, and why my relationship with my dad has never quite been the same since my mom passed away.
My life used to be so normal when I was a kid. I really missed that a lot.
Mom and dad loved each other so much. They were the best couple I ever saw! They supported each others’ dreams and were always holding hands and smiling. They loved me so much, and though they didn’t give me everything I wanted, I never lacked anything either. If I really wanted a toy, for example, they made me do chores to earn it, which I feel taught me valuable life lessons.
Everything changed soon after my 12th birthday, though. That was the worse year of my life because mom got sick. Really sick. I hope I could tell you all how she had this amazing recovery and she’s ok now, but... Well, she’s not. She died before I turned 13.
I was heartbroken, but dad was devastated. I don’t think he ever recovered from losing the love of his life.
We had lots of support from mom and dad’s families. Aunts, uncles, grandparents. They all lend a helping hand and that made it possible for dad to keep his job and make sure there was always someone looking after me.
The problem was, he was terrified of losing me as well. He would call me so many times a day and checked on me, which at first I thought was sweet. But it only got worse and worse as time went by.
And then it happened... the accident that pushed dad to begin taking really extreme measures. It was late one afternoon, and dad was driving me home from a dancing lesson. A drunk driver didn’t stop at a red light, and he crashed into us! It was a disaster.
We ended up in the hospital, and I was unconscious for like two days. I don’t remember any of it, but dad said it was really bad.
If he believed he could lose me before, now, he was horrified that every day would be my last one. That I could get into an accident or get hurt even in our own home. No place was safe for him any longer.
He began by installing a tracking app on my phone. I tried to refuse since I was 16 by then and I wanted some privacy, but he told me he’d take my cell away if I didn’t agree.
So I did, reluctantly.
Then he began picking me up from school every single day. Other students made fun of me, calling me daddy’s girl. I hated it, but he wouldn’t change his mind.
