Overtaking on the left is not a crime especially on dual carriage. You will overtake on the left because some driver has refused to keep left. Personally i don't encourage overtaking on the left.
Why?
1.For left keeping countries the driver sits on the right hand side.
2. The positioning of the right side mirror helps cover the blind spot on the right and the left side mirror covers a very minimal part of the vehicle.
3. For this reasons before you overtake on the left PLEASE make sure that the driver you are overtaking is very much aware that you are present on the left side and knows of your intent.
4. Mark my words the left side is the largest blind spot and on many occasions drivers being overtook may be surprised to find you there when they decide to make a move.
5. If we all keep left please note that we are being safe and allowing other road users to exercise safety.
6. If you can't see me in my side mirror the be sure i am not seeing you. Try as much as possible to always see me in my side mirror that's the only time you are sure i see you.
7. In this video you see good usage of lights. Beam lights so as not to cause glare to other drivers.
I urge all road users in left keeping countries to keep left always. Its not bad to overtake on the left side but as you do it please keep in mind its the largest blind spot and you must make others aware of your intention.
