$1000 Japanese Bento Box

Unboxing a $1000 Japanese Bento Box for New Year's in Japan called Osechi Ryori. Maiko and I celebrate the Japanese New Year with this traditional Japanese food all be it an expensive $1000 dollar bento box. Osechi ryrori is a traditional Japanese food for the New Year and comes in a bento-like box called jubako. The Japan bento box like osechi comes in 3 levels of boxes stacked on top of each other. This is the most expensive bento box I have ever eaten. In fact, I think it is the most expensive Japanese food I have ever eaten in my life. To give you a little Japanese history, Osechi was used to celebrate and mark the transition between 5 different seasons and New Year's in Japan. Each time giving thanks to the Gods for bountiful crops.
But eventually, Oshechi was only served during New Year's as it represented the largest transition of all of the seasons in Japan. Also fire and knives were taboo during during the new years so Osechi was prepared in advance and set out during the first 3 days of New Year. Hence the reason Osechi is served cold. These days in Japan, Osechi is set out for the New Years so that families don't have a took during the New Year's in Japan and allows for guests to come and visit, drink and eat.
