About This Video
In this online lecture ‘The Ultimate Goal’ has presented a discussion on Davis and Penck Model of Cycle of Erosion for UGC NET Geography aspirant. Cycle of Erosion is one of the most important theory in Geomorphology which was propounded by W.M Davis, A American Geographer for the first time although several other Geomorphologist like Penck, Hack, Schumm propounded their own view regarding Cycle of Erosion. Cycle of Erosion describes sequential development of landforms alongwith their genetic classification. In Model of Davis of Cycle of Erosion landform development starts with the upliftment of a featureless landmass. This landmass is evolved due to denudational agents which is running water in case of Normal Cycle of Erosion. In 3 stages landform evolution occurs and finally it becomes featureless landmass termed as Peneplane by Davis. In Penck model of Cycle of Erosion, Erosion and Upliftment goes hand to hand and their relative amount decides the type of landforms. In Penck Model initial phase have a featureless landmass named Primarumf which uplifted and starts Cycle of Erosion. With the upliftment rate, lateral and vertical erosion through 3 different phase landmass evolved and finally become featureless plain called Endrumf by Penck.Thus, these models refers to Cycle of Erosion.
