A spin-out company from the University of South Wales used maths research to enable companies to save10% on their energy bills, equating to £43 million pounds and a reduction in carbon emissions of 300,000 tonnes.
The project showed how research in mathematics, in this case in the use of statistical methods to identify company-specific patterns of energy use, can enable a company to become thought leaders within a sector.
