Discourage threatening to shoot up a school by making the threat a felony. Currently, only a petty misdemeanor could be charged for disturbing a school day. “Let’s do all we can to discourage the threats, let’s do all we can so the threats don’t turn into any deadly action,” Senator Brandt said.
Threatening to shoot up a school or making any violent threat against a school or a person at school would be a 4th degree felony under legislation Senator Craig Brandt and Representative Randy Crowder plan to sponsor and file once again in the 2020 legislative session. It is up to the governor to allow the legislation in this shorter, 30-day session.
