AppDynSys : Smale Horseshoe : Iteration

If you iterate the horseshoe map (and its inverse) over and over, you find that the stretching, squeezing, and folding does wonderful things to the square you start out with. Taking the intersection of all these strips yields an invariant set with an amazing structure.
