At least 9 women and children from a Mormon family were killed in an ambush in Mexico Monday. The victims were American citizens who lived in Mexico. Get the latest details in our LIVE COVERAGE. The victims, all members of the LeBarón family, were part of a family caravan of 17 people in 3 cars that was attacked while traveling from Sonora to Chihuahua, according to a LeBarón family member. The attackers are believed to be from a drug cartel. The 9 dead included all 3 mothers in the caravan and 6 of their children. 6 other children were shot and wounded, said a family member. It is not clear why the attack happened, but a family member told Milenio Television he believes the family was not targeted, and instead got caught up in a battle between drug cartels.
