ANIMATE a SECTION PLANE and an IMPORTED OBJECT

Hello, and welcome to this tutorial. Today, we're going to animate a section plane, and then we are going to import an object and animate that.

Let's open the material browser and drag the section cube onto a surface, approximately where you want the section to begin.

Adjust, scale and position.... like so. Make sure you include all the objects you want in there.

Now let's create a custom path. Open the command pane and select custom path. Grab the pen tool and draw a path. I'm using a core object as reference, it's difficult to create a path, especially a 90 degree path without a reference.

If there is no object in your scene that you can use as reference, then make one by opening the material browser and drag a box. Scale and position the box like so, use the box as reference point for the bottom and the top of the path. Then you can delete the box once you've created the path.

Now open your object browser, select the section cube, right click it then select "send to user library." Open the command pane and select custom path, on the left there's a window with a small box in it. Open the user library, locate the section cube that you previously added, and drag the section cube inside the custom path window replacing the box.

You can adjust the behaviour of the custom path. You can loop it, reverse it, ping-pong. There are also other parameters like change the speed, rotate, and so on. It's up to you to experiment.

For our second example, we are going to import a FBX. We are going to animate a train on a railway track.

If you want to download the train, you can follow the link in the description.

Open the command pane and select custom path. Now draw a path on the railway track. It doesn't have to be a long path, just long enough to illustrate the animation process.

Now select the train in the object browser, and just like in the previous example, add it to the user library. Open the command pane and select custom path, then drag the train from the user library into the custom path window. The dummy box in the window is replaced by the train. Oh no, this special train runs sideways. Let's fix that. Set the rotation to plus 90 degrees and speed it up a little bit.

That concludes this video. Please like, share and subscribe so I could develop more tutorials. Bye for now.
