Things have definitely gotten a little bit more complicated in the Marvel Cinematic Universe ever since the concept of time travel was introduced. Things got pretty strange in Avengers: Endgame with our heroes trying to undo the havoc caused by the Mad Titan Thanos. While we revisited familiar scenes like the Battle of New York, we noticed one strange reference to the year 2988. Could this be part of a different future? Or are we talking about a year that has long gone by? This time did have some relevance to the movie Thor: The Dark World and could have been a way to get the Reality Stone after the conflict with the Dark Elves. But could this be hinting at things to come during Phase Four or even an alternate universe? After all, there is going to be a Loki show on Disney+ which promises to fill in the blanks about what happened after he got an Infinity Stone. It’s possible we may see Malekith once more or even get a glimpse of his estranged sister, Hela.
What do you think is the significance of this time period? Is it just a leftover Easter Egg from a previous version of the script or will it come into play at some point during Phase Four?
