Tuck these 12 tips in your creative arsenal! Whenever you get stuck, one of these tips may give you something to try that could dramatically change the way you shoot, and vastly improve your photography.

We've all been there...standing in a cool location with the opportunity to take a great photo, but you hit a mental block and have no idea where to start. Don't freak out! Go into your creative arsenal and start asking yourself questions like, "How would this look if I got lower? How would this look if I shot wider? Tighter?.." In this video, I'll share 12 tips that I've not only learned out in the field, but now I depend on them to drive my photography. No matter what camera you're using, you can get some new creative energy from trying some of these simple tweaks to the way you shoot.

Some of these have to do with timing, others in proximity. A few have something to do with gear, but regardless of your experience or how much gear you're slinging, you'll be able to immediately implement some of these tips into the way you shoot.

Here are some links to my favorite gear, and a few that I mention in this video:

Nikon Z6: I love the Z6 for its incredible low light performance and the resolution is just right for shooting astro photos. If you're in the market for a great new camera with in-camera image stabilization, this is it.

Nikon Z7 - This is the best stills camera I've ever owned. Great resolution and sharpness, with incredible dynamic range. The color and detail I get from this camera continues to blow me away:

The Nikon Nikkor 20mm 1.8 Prime - I picked this lens up once I learned what an amazing "sun-star" it creates. Not to mention, it's light, compact and I can always find somewhere to stash it in my bag:

The Nikon Nikkor 200-500mm zoom: I picked up this lens to shoot distant landscape features and wildlife and I'm really enjoying it:

Nikon Nikkor 14-30mm.
This is my new go-to lens for Astrophotography! It's sharp from corner to corner and at f4 it's plenty fast enough to capture sharp, clean shots.

My LowePro Backpack, the 450AW - What I love about this pack is the ability to hang everything and the kitchen sink from it.

My favorite snacks to eat out in the field, Dang Bars. They're Keto friendly too!

My favorite headlamp, with red glow light and 300 lumens for hiking out in the dark! The Petzl Tikka:

My tripod, "The BEAST" and a rock solid platform for astro photos, the Robus 8880 carbon fiber tripod:
