Don’t Be Anxious

Don’t Be Anxious Philippians 4:6-7

“The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

1. The Bible as Bibliotherapy

Luke 8:14 The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature.

Qt “Anxiety and worry is a thief, and it’s an inside job!”

Proverbs 14:30 “A heart at peace gives life to the body…”

Psalm 94:18–19 “When I said, “My foot is slipping,” your love, O Lord, supported me. When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul.”

Proverbs 3:25–26 “Have no fear of sudden disaster or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked, for the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being snared.”

2. Prayer as Prescription

V.6 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

The Message: “Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.”

1 Peter 5:7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

3. The Peace of God

V.7 “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Isaiah 26:3 (NKJV) “You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.”

Colossians 3:15 “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.”
