Boris Johnson loses Commons majority after Tory rebel Phillip Lee QUITS mid-speech to join Lib Dems

Boris Johnson loses Commons majority after Tory rebel Phillip Lee QUITS mid-speech to join Lib Dems UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has suffered a major blow, losing his majority in the House of Commons after Tory rebel and ex-minister Phillip Lee quit the party to join the Liberal Democrats.

Dr Lee, the MP for Bracknell, took his seat on the opposition benches as the PM addressed the Commons.

The incendiary step came as the Tories descended into civil war ahead of the huge showdown over No Deal Brexit tonight.

In a statement, Dr Lee said the 'party I joined in 1992 is not the party I am leaving today'.

'This Conservative government is aggressively pursuing a damaging Brexit in unprincipled ways,' he said.

His defection means that Boris Johnson no longer has a working majority in the Commons.

During a heated debate between the Prime Minister and Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, Mr Lee walked across the floor from the Conservative Party bench to sit with the Liberal Democrats. In his resignation to the Prime Minister, Mr Lee lashed out at the party and the Government specifically for it “aggressively pursuing a damaging Brexit in unprincipled ways”.
