We’re going to build our website by following these 5 steps.
So, Let’s Start.
Step 1: Pick a name for your website
First, you need to go to: wpwithtom.com/create-a-website and then pick a name for your website. You can choose anything like - mywebsite.com, or .net, or .org.
This is called the domain name of your website.
So, pick one and check whether it’s available or not! Once you get one, you can proceed to the next step.
Next we'll get hosting.
Hosting is what you need in order for your website to be live on the internet.
Hosting is the place where your website’s files get stored and your domain is the name of your website.
So, here we can get your hosting for the domain you've chosen. Once you’ve completed the purchase, you can continue to the next step.
Step 2: Installing WordPress
Wordpress is a free tool that can be installed and used to create a website without having any knowledge of coding or programming.
To Install WordPress, go to your hosting account and click "cPanel". Once cPanel opens scroll down to “WordPress.” within the Softaculous Apps Installer area. Click install now and create a WordPress website Login by entering a username and password. (This will be used to logg into WordPress each time)
After the WordPress Installation is complete, you’ll then be taken to your WordPress Dashboard. From this area you will be able to control your website. When you reach this page, your website is LIVE! So, you can quickly check it by entering your domain name.
Now, to visit your WordPress Dashboard again, you can just type: yourwebsite.com/login.
Your website currently has a default WordPress Theme. You can change it in the next step.
Step 3: Adding a New Theme
You can install a new theme by going to 'Appearance' then ‘Themes’. Here we will install the Astra theme (To get pre-made website designs with demo content).
Another similar option to Astra is the OceanWP theme. OceanWP also comes with the option to use pre-made website designs.
Step 4: Install the Astra Starter Sites Plugin
This will make it easy for you to customize your site. You can install this plugin, by going to ‘Plugins’.
Now, this plugin has a set of designs for your website, which you can choose & then apply it to your site.
To choose the designs, you can click ‘See Library.’ From here we can choose our design and builder. Find a design you like. I suggest using Elementor for the builder.
So, choose the design and import it to your site. Once, you’ve got the design with its demo content, you can then go on to the final step.
Step 5: Editing the Demo Content
Editing a page is very easy. Here we can go into the page that you want to edit and click ‘Elementor’.
Then go to an editing section or element. To edit any text, just select it, and type anything you want. This process works throughout the website.
This is how, you can edit any page you want using Elementor. Now, lets say we want to replace the image with our own. We can simply click on the area and edit it.
Next let's cover how to add and edit our contact form for the website.
After making these changes you can now see just how easily you can create a website with Astra and Elementor.
There's so much more we can edit, but I hope this got you started in the right direction!
I also hoped this tutorial helped you learn how to create a website quickly with our 5 step process.
