Today we're talking about IGTV. I believe, as I mentioned yesterday in a comment on one of my other posts that I'd be making this video, and I do think it is the number one most underutilized opportunity on Instagram for influencers. We were talking with a client yesterday, and I just came to the realization that I feel this way, so I thought I'd make a video.

The fact of the matter is, it's better in every way than almost any other influencer engagement strategy right now. Specifically as it relates to Instagram. Everything changed with IGTV when they allowed an influencer to post to feed. That changed everything, because now you are directly exposing your audience to a video post, and they have an opportunity to watch it in long form if they like what they see. As a brand, if you're looking for long form content that's interesting and getting people to watch at a long, steady pace, you don't have to now go to a podcast owner that has built this huge following, you can go to an Instagrammer that puts out some sort of unique piece of content. It could even be a podcast, but they don't have to create a full blown, proper podcast on iTunes. It's just going to be for their Instagram.

They hire a video company maybe, maybe they do it themselves. Either way, you can drop links in the description, and it will track and report to you how many website links it is. Because of that, you're in feed. Imagine being able to get in feed with direct link outs. You can have that with affiliate links, or any kind of tracking system that you want. You can have it with coupon codes. The specific metrics I wanted to show, my wife sent it over. Go follow Bri, by the way, if you don't follow Bri. You know what I'm saying?

Here's a good example. If we look right here, before they made the change to in feed posts, her videos right here, if you can see, have 948 views, 1,400 views, 966, 486, 318. Now, those are real views. IGTV was just terrible. No one was even watching the pinned stories on your page, far less the IGTVs, they didn't get proper notifications in feed. You got a little notification, but you were interrupted. It's when you're passively scrolling that people are already in the mindset of absorbing interesting content. But look at this. Her most recent post is at almost 20,000 views. That is because it went into feed. If she put a full blown description like I asked her to, she'd get more SEO value for that.

All I'm trying to say is that IGTV gives brands an opportunity to get long form content for influencers and have link outs, have proper long descriptions with good SEO, and you can do it at very, very affordable rates because this is a very new, and a lot of influencers aren't creating long form content just for IGTV, just as sponsored content, so they don't know how to monetize. If it's me working with a brand that has difficulty advertising traditionally, or specifically wants to work with influencers, I would be putting all of my money into IGTV long form content that's created in a unique way by influencers, and set up all the link outs that I want properly. These videos continued to get watched, and the retention time is really nice.
